Update on Projects:
Footpath:
A footpath, consisting of plain bricks and bricks inscribed with the names of every Frensham and Dockenfield resident is to be laid in St. Mary’s churchyard, linking the old and new church land. Names will be included on the basis that they are on the electoral roll. As this excludes children, it will be possible to purchase a brick for Frensham residents who are not included on ther electoral roll.
The project has been well received, and this has meant that there has been significant financial contribution made already. Fund raising events and a "Surrey Pride of Place" award from Surrey County Council in conjunction with Toshiba have meant that funds stand at about £4000. A total of £7000 is required in all.
The BBC 1 programme "South Today" has filmed a piece on the project on Tuesday, 27 July 1999. It was shown on Friday, 30 July 1999.
Trees:
Adequate funds are in hand for the tree planting. Consultation with the appropriate professionals is to be made regarding suitability of the choice of trees and their proposed location.
PROM project:
A CD-ROM containing photographs of Frensham residents and the organisations and events in the village during the year 2000 is to be put together. It will be available for sale at the beginning of 2001 and a copy will be plaed in the time capsule. It may be that the organisers of this project will ask individuals to send in photographs of themselves and/or their homes and families which may then be scanned on to the disc. Further information on this to follow.
Church window:
A plain window in St. Mary’s Church is to be replaced with stained or engraved glass. Designs and negotiations with the church authorities and manufacturers and installers are underway. It is thought that adequate funds are available to carry this project through.
Parish Walk:
A walk encompassing the three wards of Frensham parish, Rushmoor, Churt and Frensham is being planned. Currently, it is proposed that it is undertaken in two stages. Firmer dates and plans to follow in the near future.
Charitable church project:
A plan has been put together to establish a fund to give clean water to those who have none. Every Frensham resident is to be asked to donate £1 each and this will be put into trust, the interest will provide clean water in third world countries. The Brownies, Guides and Cubs have been invited to participate in the collection of the donations.
Time Capsule:
A time capsule is to be buried under the brick footpath, with instructions not to disinter it until 100 years later. It will be possible to include up to 2000 items within it. One of these is the CD-ROM. Ideas for items to include will be welcomed. It may be that a small charge may be made for inclusions in order to cover the costs of purchase and burial of the time capsule.
