FRENSHAM MILLENNIUM TREES
Specimen trees will be planted in Frensham to celebrate the Millennium. A number of varieties have been suggested, and expert advice sought. The following sites and species are currently under discussion:
FRENSHAM VILLAGE SCHOOL GREEN
Red Oak (Quercus Rubra )
Existing group of Horse Chestnuts to be enhanced (Aesculus Hippocastanum)
HOLLOWDENE RECREATION GROUND
Five trees, donated to the parish by a former Mayor of Farnham, have died.
It is proposed that these be replaced by:
1. A Green Beech (Fagus Sylvatica)
2. A Tulip Tree (Liriodendron Tulipifera)
3. A Sweet Gum (Liquidambar Styraciflua)
4 An Acer (Norway Maple Drummondii)
5. A Gingko (Biloba)
ST MARY’S CHURCH
AND THE CHURCH OF THE GOOD SHEPHERDPARISH YEWS FOR THE MILLENNIUM
The Conservation Foundation ‘Yews for the Millennium’ Project is providing saplings propagated from ancient yews gauged to be between 2,000 and 4,000 years old and consequently thought to have been alive at the time of Christ. One such yew will be planted in the churchyards of both mother and daughter churches to commemorate the Millennium.
The site for all the trees will be prepared in the early months of 2000, and a detailed timetable of planting will be circulated shortly.
